DEBORA AND WHEN YOU ARE BALTIMORE MURAL ARTIST ERNEST SHAW, THE ART IS BIG, ALIVE AND PURPOSEFUL.>>IT DEPICTS THREE PEOPLE THAT WERE VERY IMPORTANT TO ME UNTIL WE WITH DEVELOPMENT. DEBORA SHAW’S HOLY TRINITY, AS HE CALLS IT, OF MALCOLM X, MUSICIAN NINA SIMONE, AND WRITER JAMES BALDWIN WATCH OVER THE CORNER OF EAST LAFAYETTE AND BARCLAY STREETS.>>IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PAINT THIS BECAUSE I HAD A PAINTED EXTREMELY FAST. SHAW, WHO TEACHES ART IN BALTIMORE CITY SCHOOLS, BELIEVES ART VALIDATES ONE’S HUMANITY AND HE CREATES WORK TO COMBAT IMAGES HE SAYS ARE NEGATIVE AND DEGRADIN IT IS HIS ART THAT LIGHTS UP THE CORNER OF PENNSYLVANIA AND NORTH AVENUES, THE EPI CENTER OF THE — EPICENTER OF THE 2015 RIOTS. PERHAPS YOU WILL SEE HIM OVER THE SUMMER, PAINTING MURALS OUTSIDE, WORKING WITH THE CITY’S YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE ART AT WORK PROGRAM.
