Quincy Elementary Students show off artwork in NOTO

“FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK” IN NORTH TOPEKA.QUINCY ELEMENTARY STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW OFF THEIR ARTWORK TONIGHT. SO I CAUGHT UP WITH SOME OF THE YOUNG ARTISTS WHO SOLD THEIR PIECES HERE IN NOTO. AND THEY’RE LEAVING THE ADULTS IMPRESSED…IT’S A REAL-LIFE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY THAT STUDENTS DON’T GET EVERYDAY — THE CHANCE TO BE AN ARTIST FOR A NIGHT. QUINCY ELEMENTARY’S ART TEACHER DIANE AKOOSHT ENCOURAGES THEM TO BE A PART OF THEIR SPECIAL DISPLAY AND TELL POSSIBLE BUYERS ABOUT THEIR WORK. “oh it’s just fabulous to see kids out here selling their work interacting with viewers and experiencing life as a real artist” SHE’S TRYING TO TEACH STUDENTS THAT BEING AN ARTIST IS A REAL JOB. “it’s a way to experience the community” THE CHANCE TO SHOW OFF THEIR WORK HAS SOME YOUNG PAINTERS WORKING EVEN HARDER. “If you have only 3 or 4 people there it’s not going to be that exciting but here, youre most likely if they both want your painting theyre going to say no i want itand it’s a great environment for people to look at art” SOME FEEL LUCKY TO BE ON DISPLAY. “it’s really like honoring to let everyone enjoy my art and what ive worked hard for” IF YOU’VE EVER CONTEMPLATED TRYING YOUR HAND AT ART, THESE YOUNG ARTISTS HAVE SOME ADVICE FOR YOU. “just because someone said your art is not good just don’t believe in them just trust your instincts and you can decide whatever you want”THE DIRECTOR SAYS THERE IS SO MUCH WORK THAT THEY’VE TAKEN UP JUST ABOUT ALL THE SPACE IN HERE — IT’S ABOUT 50 PIECES AND THERE WERE DOZENS MORE AT THEIR SCHOOL.
