Hotere artwork finds home in Mangere

It’s worth nearly $1 million,
and it will be on display in the Mangere Art Centre. It’s one of Ralph Hotere’s
major pieces “Towards Rangitoto 1989”. It was originally commissioned for the Auckland
Regional Council building. So when James Pinker received a call
asking if he wanted a Hotere piece, it wasn’t an opportunity
he was going to turn down. After a lengthy negotiation process
and refurbishment of the piece, it’s now found its home
at Nga Tohu o Uenuku. Earlier this year,
the Te Aupouri artist received NZ’s highest honour – the Membership
of the Order of Merit.
