Cathy Wilmot: Bachelor of Performing Arts

i’m Cathy Wilmot and I’m a graduate
of The Bachelor a performing arts program I have always been performing from a
very young age I was in shows in high school and
upon graduating I was really interested in the theatre program at Douglas College so I attended many years
ago I started out after graduating I did
10 years of dinner theatre so that was very broad big theatre and then after that I
did some musicals and some plays I’ve done many roles in theatre I have
been in dinner theatre I’ve been in theatre, I’ve been in performing arts
I’ve been a singer and I’ve been an actor I’ve been in musicals I’ve been a
director and a costumer and a producer and I’ve hit the Go button in the booth. I’ve done it all. I am an
interdisciplinary artist which is what the BPA program is all about. the great thing about theatre
is it’s so unpredictable and it’s not like film where you get to do it
again each night it’s different its live things can go wrong and things do go
wrong and it’s how you recover from those things that, I think, makes you a fantastic
performer last year I just decided to pursue my
Bachelors which I sort of abandoned 15 years prior. I picked the BPA program
because for me it was another step in my academic journey as well it was really well suited from
my background in where i wanted to head in the future the program give me an opportunity to
collaborate with different people from all different backgrounds within arts the final project for the BPA program was
a show called Phantasmagoria Circus of Dreams for the PuSH festival in January. And we created the title
six months prior and then had to create a show based on
the title which was a little challenging but we all
rose to the challenge. On the stage the show we produced was definitely interdisciplinary we had
all of our backgrounds coming in movement music, dance, theatre, singing, clowning,
lights, projection what’s next for me is I will be doing
I have a few projects on the horizon and then in September I am going on to my
Masters
