Arts on Prescription – #BBCommunities

(peaceful music) – When you see it in action and you see the effects it has on people, it’s a simple recipe, but it works and having the power through
a programme like this to restore confidence and a new purpose is just absolute magic. (cheerful music) We’re not saying that Arts on Prescription should replace traditional healthcare, but it works alongside it so well. We have a lot of participants that might suffer from chronic illness, challenges in their mental health or social isolation, bereavement and something as simple
as doing an art programme is powerful in terms
of the health benefits. – I think everybody suffers
at a point in their life where things go a bit south, but I’ve had a bit of a history of it. Everybody who suffers into
the dark side of their lives, you realise it’s incredibly tiring. – I still reach out for her
in bed and say goodnight. It’s the way it’s been and the way it always will be, I think. Arts on Prescription came into being in my life a couple of years ago. It combats loneliness. I’ve always loved singing. I love singing and the music was great. It gives me a sense of
comradery when I’m in the group. I love it, I think it’s
really good for us. – The support we could
receive from communities will go a really long way. We’ve really started something in a lot of people’s hearts and minds, and we’d love to just keep that going. – It gave me something to look
forward to every single week. It took me away from
that constant dark side. The changes that made to me emotionally and mentally were outstanding, and I would hate to lose it.
